Music Business Worldwide (MBW) has added two more senior executive figures to its Advisory Board.

The MBW Advisory Board have agreed to provide feedback on the direction of MBW and its content, and to keep the publication informed of the key issues affecting the global music industry.

The Board is comprised of established senior executives from all corners of the worldwide business, including the likes of Daniel Glass (Glassnote), Hartwig Masuch (BMG), Kenny Gates ([PIAS]) Michael Gudinski (Mushroom), Richard Griffiths (Modest!), Simon Robson (Warner), Willard Ahdritz (Kobalt) and more besides.

FAILURE SET JUNE 30 RELEASE FOR THE HEART IS A MONSTER

FANTASTIC PLANET FOLLOW-UP ARRIVES VIA INGROOVES MUSIC GROUP

LOS ANGELES – Failure release The Heart Is A Monster, the Los Angeles-based trio’s highly anticipated follow-up to 1996’s Fantastic Planet, on June 30via INgrooves Music Group’s artist services division, INresidence.

“Trying to follow up Fantastic Planet was a bit daunting,” said Ken Andrews, who mixed the 18-song collection with the band acting as producers. “We’ve pushed the bar upward again, but at the same time, we’ve kept the signature sound of the band intact.”

“Thematically we’ve moved from the outer space of Fantastic Planet to inner space,” explained Greg Edwards. “From the dislocation of one’s identity to the complete erasing of it by sleep and dreams.  I think we’ve used instrumentation in the service of mood and emotion to an even greater degree than on Fantastic Planet.”

The band returned from a 17-year hiatus in early 2014 with a single Los Angeles date planned. The show sold out in seconds, which led to a North American tour, including a run of dates with Tool, and eventually back to the studio. In a recent interview with Noisey, Andrews admits by the time the band announced their first live outing, he, Edwards and Kellii Scott were already working on new music, saying “One thing that Greg and I agreed on very early on, is that we did not want to reform for just one or two nostalgia tours.  We wanted to come back as a full functioning musical force and creatively pick up where we left off with Fantastic Planet. That meant we needed to start experimenting in the studio first, which we did in late 2013. After a few months, we came to the conclusion that we were having a good time and that we liked the results, and that we thought the results were definitely Failure.  We’ve been chipping away at a new album this whole time.”

In that same article, Andrews and Edwards explain that their approach to writing and recording Fantastic Planet and The Heart Is A Monster have been similar, saying “The songs on Fantastic Planet appear more or less in the order that we wrote them… when, we do a song now, we write it and record it soup-to-nuts without moving to another song… It takes longer, but it makes more sense for us artistically to explore a song completely before you move on.”

Failure’s SXSW performance, which was the trio’s first live outing since wrapping production on The Heart is A Monster, included the new song “Hot Traveler,” which Entertainment Weekly said “had every bit the sonic thickness, rhythmic thump, and melodic bite as favorites like ‘Another Space Song’ and ‘Heliotropic.’”

Failure formed in Los Angeles in the early ‘90s, releasing Comfort, their debut album, in 1992 via Slash Records. Magnified followed in the spring of 1994 with the band’s final offering, Fantastic Planet, released in 1996. Fantastic Planet earned a perfect 5-star score from Alternative Press with the magazine saying the album was able “to breathe life into the corpse of contemporary, guitar-driven rock,” adding that the band was “willing to stretch the definition of both their instruments and their songs.” The 17-track album is considered one of the era’s most influential and enduring rock records.  Over the years, Failure has become known as a “band’s band” whose songs have been covered by such diverse artists as A Perfect Circle (“The Nurse Who Loved Me”) and Paramore (“Stuck On You”). Tool/A Perfect Circle singer Maynard James Keenan said, “Failure has been a huge inspiration to me. They say amateurs borrow and professionals steal. Well over the years this pro has robbed those poor saps blind.”

Amy Dietz Promoted to Executive Vice President of INgrooves Music Group

(LOS ANGELES) LA-based independent label SideOneDummy Records and INgrooves Music Group, one of the world’s leading independent music distributors, announced today that they have expanded their partnership to include worldwide distribution, music publishing and marketing services for all releases on the label. The deal was announced as the label celebrates 20 successful years in the independent music business by SideOneDummy Founder Bill Armstrong, and Amy Dietz, General Manager of INgrooves.

INgrooves and SideOneDummy first partnered in 2008 on digital albums released outside of the US, when the distributor was exclusively focused on digital distribution. Since then, INgrooves has significantly expanded its global services to include physical distribution, comprehensive marketing, as well as music publishing and neighboring rights administration. As they enter their second year in business, and their boutique-style operation continues to grow steadily, they’ve announced the following additions to their music publishing roster:

  • Chuck Inglish (Cool Kids), set to release a collaborative album with Blended Babies in March entitled “Ev Zepplin”, to be distributed via a joint venture between RBC and INgrooves.

  • Music agency Music Dealers has extended their publishing deal with INgrooves

Also, expect big things this year from INgrooves client Aaron Pearce, who recently produced Jill Scott’s upcoming album (slated for release on Atlantic Records this Spring), and has written a number of new singles to be performed by A-list artists including Ricky Martin & Pitbull, Craig Wayne Boyd, Wyclef Jean, Boyz II Men, and more.

“I am excited to be working with the awesome and creative team at INgrooves on what is looking to be an amazing 2015!” said Pearce. “They have a passion for great songs and the writers who create them. Music Business Association Welcomes Amy Dietz to Board of Directors

Dietz will fill the seat vacated by Robb McDaniels as he stepped down as CEO of INgrooves in late 2014. Dietz oversees the company’s day-to-day operations as their current General Manager. She came to INgrooves from Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), where she rose from a regional advertising manager to VP of Label and Artist Development. While at ADA, she took an active role in developing and managing the company’s label partner services including global physical and digital distribution, merchandise sales, direct-to-consumer sales, and marketing. Dietz began her career in music with Title Wave, a Minneapolis mom-and-pop record and video outfit, where she learned the retail business from head to toe.

LONDON, UK – Modestep, the acclaimed electronic rock outfit from London, and their management company, Raw Power, announced today that they have chosen INgrooves Music Group to provide global distribution and marketing services for their upcoming album which is slated for a Spring 2015 release. Modestep will partner with INgrooves’ artist services division, INresidence, for product management and  promotion for their upcoming album – the second of their career.

“2015 is shaping up to be a big year for the band,” said Modestep, “We are looking forward to working with INgrooves to leverage their expertise and the rich array of resources they bring to our creative vision.”

Currently ensconced in the studio working on their forthcoming album, Modestep was formed by brothers Josh and Tony Friend in 2010.  The band has performed at festivals such as Coachella, T in the Park, and Ultra Music Festival and toured the World on the back of their first album, Evolution Theory, which claimed the top spot on the UK dance chart after its 2013 release. Their new album will be their first on their own label Max Records with INgrooves.
